The new whitepaper from Virtual Umbrella, Virtual Reality Marketing: Understanding Sales & Marketing in the Immersive Technology Sector, explores an important subject that is too often dismissed in immersive tech, as Samantha Kingston explains
My business partner Bertie and I have always striven to help the immersive technology industry grow, evolve and follow a positive path. We both fell in love with the technology back in 2014 when we both had opportunities to work for companies that were exploring virtual reality (VR).
Then in 2015, we decided that together, we could work and really benefit the industry by creating Virtual Umbrella. Virtual Umbrella is a marketing consultancy specialising in immersive technology and we provide marketing, consultancy and events services. Over the past four years, we have been on the ground exploring technology, sharing knowledge and working with a variety of creators, agencies and brands. We have introduced VR to more than 30,000 people and we want that to continue.
We have always believed in sharing knowledge and expanding our leaning, especially when it comes to marketing and technology. We have seen a variety of whitepapers released by others in the industry, but we started to realise that the kind of work we do is often dismissed. We wanted to share our own document for everyone to have access to. We have been working on building this document for some time now, behind the scenes. We are so excited that it is now out there in the world.
So what’s it actually about? We wanted to create a document that would give everyone working in the immersive technology sector a more accurate understanding of sales and marketing for and with emerging tech. That could be creators, developers, brands and even those just entering the industry for the first time; it’s an introduction to the work we do on a daily basis. We have three main areas that delve into: Who are the audience for XR? How do you market for XR products? Why should brands use XR in their marketing?
This is a document that we think everyone should have available to read whenever they need it.
We are hoping that we will extend this report over time. As the industry evolves, as we experience new headsets, or people want us to focus on particular areas of interest, we will update this report as much as we can.
