The much-anticipated virtual reality headset from Valve Corporation, the force behind Steam, has finally been confirmed.

The Valve Index will be released in May 2019, according to the sole teaser image (above) released this week.

Little is known about the VR headset, but leaks have suggested it will support a wide, 135-degree field-of-view.

With no concrete details to report, Ars Technica interrogated the image and discovered “a series of six dots on one of the headset’s surfaces”, which may hint to an outside tracking sensor, while the two giant lenses could suggest inside-out tracking.

The Valve Index will release at about the same time as the new Oculus Quest and Rift S headsets, as well as the HTC Vive Focus, promising a competitive year ahead for VR hardware makers.
