The story

XR training and education specialist EON Reality’s flagship AVR Platform is now available on the Magic Leap World app store.

Currently available through Magic Leap World for free, the AVR Platform offers immersive academic and enterprise training and education.

Its unique selling points are ease of content creation, with target educators, trainers and employers requiring no coding or advanced technological knowledge to develop lessons, and ease of access through smartphones, laptops and headsets.

EON Reality “began diligently” turning the AVR Platform into a “powerful and practical experience for Magic Leap users” several months ago, after the spatial computing company’s pivot into enterprise.

The XR training and education specialist’s key focus has been on bringing the intuitive and flexible nature of the AVR Platform to a device—Magic Leap 1—that “provides the ultimate freedom in movement and environmental awareness”.

EON Reality has been working on the release amid the Covid-19 pandemic and after its launch of an initiative to encourage take up and a decision to drop the paywall on the basic version of its platform.

“Partnering with one of the industry leaders in spatial computing has already benefited us tremendously, and now having the application available natively on their devices will be an even bigger boon for both companies’ existing and prospective clients. We look forward to seeing this partnership continue to flourish.”

It hopes that the AVR Platform’s release for Magic Leap 1 will expand enterprise use. Dan Lejerskar, founder of EON Reality, said: “We are very excited about finally getting the AVR Platform into the Magic Leap World store because I believe it’s a huge step forward in bringing our best solutions to an even larger audience.”

EON Reality’s debut on the Magic Leap World app store follows the arrival of the Spatial collaboration app in March and suggests a return to normal for the spatial computing company, after a bumpy year so far.

In April, Magic Leap said it was planning to lay off a portion of its workforce in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, in a bid to restructure and complete its pivot toward the enterprise market.

As many as 1,000 Magic Leap employees faced losing their jobs, but reports this month indicate that the company has secured $350 million in fresh capital from investors and is close to signing deals with healthcare and defence prospects.
