Arvizio launches solution for AR model sharing over video conferencing

Arvizio has launched Immerse 3D, a solution for sharing and interacting with 3D models in augmented reality when using collaborative web meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom.

With this launch, Arvizio customers around the world can transform virtual meetings to conduct planning and review sessions using a variety of 3D models to visualise augmented reality digital twins.

Through Immerse 3D, remote participants are represented by avatars equipped with a pointer tool to identify key features. Models can be annotated and viewed at tabletop size or 1:1 scale with the ability to teleport into the model from their device even when seated.

The Arvizio Immerse 3D solution is comprised of the following key components:

‣ Arvizio Director PC or server application where users manage 3D collaboration sessions.

‣ Arvizio Immerse 3D app for 3D model collaboration on phones, tablets and augmented reality headsets.

‣ Arvizio Cloud service suite for secure content synchronisation and collaboration.

Immerse 3D offers unique model optimisation and efficient WAN transport capabilities to provide efficient data compression and parallel loading of large data sets to multiple augmented reality clients.

With on-demand model loading, Arvizio Immerse 3D is an ideal way for industries and sectors such as architecture, engineering and construction, energy, engineering, industrial design, manufacturing, and aerospace, to utilise their 3D data for impactful, interactive web meetings.

How it works:

‣ The meeting organiser launches a session from their Arvizio Director application.

‣ A QR code for joining the session is shared with participants over the web meeting.

‣ Meeting participants scan the QR code and join the session with their devices.

‣ 3D models are pushed to all participants in real time; there is no need for each user to download them.

‣ While in the meeting, participants can discuss and mark-up the 3D models in real time.

‣ Once the meeting has concluded, models on the client devices are automatically erased.

Jonathan Reeves, chief executive officer at Arvizio, says: “Bringing augmented reality to web meetings provides a more impactful experience—it’s visual, interactive and immersive.”

“We are empowering our customers to use 3D visualisation with stakeholders around the world and use augmented reality for more efficient and realistic project reviews. We’re excited to deliver this capability to our customers as remote interactions and digital meetings become the norm.”

Arvizio’s Immerse 3D can be used on a variety of meeting platforms with screen sharing capabilities, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex, BlueJeans, Amazon Chime and Google Meet.

The device app is available for Apple iPhone and iPad, Android smartphones and tablets, Microsoft HoloLens 2, and Magic Leap devices.

In addition, Arvizio’s Immerse 3D interfaces to popular cloud and on-premise hubs, offering the ability to integrate and associate live data with objects in 3D models to create an operational digital twin.

HipInsight AR guidance system for surgeons receives FDA approval

Surgical Planning Associates (SPA) has secured 501(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for the HipInsight augmented reality intra-operative guidance system.

Following receipt of the approval, Dr Stephen Murphy, founder of SPA, performed the first total hip arthroplasty using the HipInsight system at North Atlantic Surgery Suites in Salem, New Hampshire.

Dr. Murphy comments: “Traditional navigation systems, robotics and interoperative imaging provide information on flat screens outside the surgeon’s view of the patient, leaving the process disjointed and awkward.”

“The HipInsight system enables surgeons to stay focused on the patient, projecting holograms on AR glasses that effectively give them ‘x-ray vision,’ so that surgeons can see what they need to see, when they need to see it, right inside the patient’s body.”

The HipInsight system is the first FDA-cleared surgical guidance platform to be contained entirely within a head-mounted device, the Microsoft HoloLens 2, according to SPA.

HipInsight enables surgeons to be more precise in the most critical aspects of the operation

Combining cloud-based preoperative planning and virtual interoperative guidance, HipInsight enables surgeons to be more precise in the most critical aspects of the operation, which can increase the likelihood of successful outcomes.

The HipInsight system also provides a more seamless and intuitive solution compared to cumbersome and expensive traditional robotic and navigation systems.

Dr Daniel Ward of Longwood Orthopedic Associates, who assisted Dr Murphy with the inaugural surgery, says: “It’s amazing to be able to actually see the entire bony anatomy, implants and instruments inside the patient while you’re operating. This is the kind of technology surgeons have been striving for—when you try it for the first time, it’s just a mind-blowing experience.”

Dr Grayson Connors of Excel Orthopaedics, who also assisted, adds: “What’s remarkable about the HipInsight system is how natural it feels. It’s how you would operate if you actually had x-ray vision—you can see exactly what you need to do at all times, even if the patient shifts position on the table. This is a game-changer.”
