The story

Hot on the heels of its acquisition of Upskill, TeamViewer, the remote software company making strides in augmented reality, has struck a sponsorship deal with English Premier League soccer team Manchester United worth £235 million.

The sponsorship deal, reportedly costing £47 million per year for five seasons, will see TeamViewer replace car manufacturer Chevrolet as Manchester United’s principal shirt sponsor.

This means TeamViewer, a company working on becoming a major name in industry-specific augmented reality solutions, will gain access to Manchester United’s estimated 1.1 billion fans, a move that could help take this immersive technology to the next level within the enterprise market.

Manchester United will also draw on TeamViewer’s expertise to connect fans with the soccer club through augmented reality solutions and remote access to its 75.000+ capacity Old Trafford stadium.

Oliver Steil, chief executive officer of TeamViewer, says the partnership will “significantly expand our brand positioning” and “help us to market our comprehensive solutions portfolio to all customer segments globally”.

Richard Arnold, managing director at Manchester United, adds: “We are tremendously proud to be establishing this partnership with one of the most exciting and dynamic global software companies. The ability to connect and collaborate has never been more important to the world and our community of 1.1 billion fans and followers.”

“We are looking forward to working with TeamViewer to bring to life our vision for a partnership built on smarter ways of connecting people and businesses.”

All about remote connectivity

TeamViewer is all about remote connectivity, enabling workers to access, control, manage, monitor and repair devices of any kind, from anywhere.

Augmented reality is a crucial technology for the company in its mission to improve remote connectivity for workers.

Its flagship augmented reality software, TeamViewer Pilot, is undergoing rapid development, including the addition of support for Microsoft HoloLens 2.

The recent acquisition of Upskill brought digital workflow solutions that support workers in industrial manufacturing, inspection, and audit use cases through real-time interfaces with smart glasses and handheld mobile devices.
