The story

Enterprise organisations, professional users and creators interested in Igloo Vision’s shared immersive cylinders can now try them out in a new demo centre in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

This is a significant development for the UK-based company and developer of ‘shared immersive tech’, which includes the Igloo 2.5 m projection cube to 9 m cylinder, media players and wraparound workspaces, as well as an in-depth software suite, because the demo centre is its first in mainland Europe.

The new centre was launched on 13 April in partnership with flexible working space company HNK, in HNK Scheepvaartkwartier in Rotterdam’s Maritime Quarter.

The demo centre includes a state-of-the-art Igloo shared immersive cylinder of the type that has been installed by Igloo clients such as Accenture, bp and Microsoft, as well as more than 40 universities around the world.

Igloo Vision says the centre is available and ideal for enterprise organisations looking to learn about using shared immersive tech for visualising data and designs, collaboration, simulation for training and teaching, and more.

Content creators and software vendors that want to test interactive, 360 deg or virtual reality content and programs are also able to use the new centre.

There are some administrative matters to consider. The centre is open for demos every Tuesday and Wednesday only, and Covid-19 safety guidelines mean all demos must be pre-booked. Igloo Vision says it’s seeing high interest from across the Netherlands and beyond in Belgium, Germany, France and Denmark.

Colin Yellowley, research and development director at Igloo Vision, says: “Last year, we chose Amsterdam as the venue to launch our new Immersive Workspace, and the response has been tremendous.”

“We’re now pressing ahead with this permanent foothold in the Netherlands. It will enable us to better support our existing European clients, reach new ones and further accelerate that growth.”

Henrik Hellman, founder of Netherlands-based virtual reality firm UC360, who has already worked closely with Igloo Vision as a content partner, is overseeing the demo centre.

He says:  “Igloo’s immersive technology has been delivered worldwide and the need keeps growing. Rotterdam is positioned perfectly. It’s a gateway to Europe, and our site almost neighbours the largest medical school in the Netherlands.”

“We’re excited to build new connections and demonstrate our technology to organisations to help them improve their existing workflows and communications.”
