Featuring Varjo, 8th Wall, Ericsson, NuEyes, 302 Interactive, Lenovo, VictoryXR and XRSPACE
Professional users of immersive technologies should pay attention to what is happening at Varjo. The latest edition of The Reality Wire brings not a hardware update from the Finnish company but a software one: cloud streaming has been added to the Varjo Reality Cloud platform.
This is important for two reasons. Firstly, it is yet more progress in the move toward delivering quality immersive content, be it for virtual, augmented or mixed reality (VR, AR or MR, collectively ‘XR’), via the cloud. And here it is doubly important because Varjo headsets deliver some of the best visuals around. Being able to stream “human-eye resolution” content directly to its headsets “is a game-changer for companies looking to scale their use” of XR, according to founder and chief technology officer Urho Konttori.
Secondly, this is another step in the journey toward truly immersive remote collaboration paired with high-quality visualisation, of the kind that could benefit surgeons discussing a cutting-edge medical procedure, or automotive designers testing their latest virtual prototype. Location no longer matters and logistics are of no concern when high-quality visualisations can be accessed by anyone, anywhere.
